James Milner and Solly March among Brighton contract dilemmas

May 25, 2026

Fabian Hurzeler is ready for “a lot of planning” ahead of his first European season.

He will assess plans for his Albion squad along with chairman Tony Bloom, chief executive Paul Barber and key technical staff Jason Ayto and Mike Cave.

Albion must plan for Thursday-Sunday football if they negotiate the Conference League play-off round in August.

Head coach Hurzeler said: “It’s important now to analyse the squad, to get an understanding of what was good, what was bad.

“What do we need? Where do we need to have improvements?

“We have some contracts running out, so this will be a lot of planning for the next season.

“But we are a well-structured club. I really trust Tony and Paul and Mike and Jason that we will do the right steps, what’s important for the club.

“And then I’m looking forward for this challenge.”

James Milner, Solly March, Joel Veltman and Adam Webster are out of contract.

Asked specifically about Milner, Hurzeler said: “Let’s wait for the next days because I think, first of all, we really want to speak about the season.

“We want to reflect everyone’s performance and then I think it’s very important that we give every player individual feedback, and including this feedback, we also have the James Milner topic and then we see what happens.”
