‘YOU ARE BONKERS’: DARREN BENT STATES NEWCASTLE DUO WOULDN’T LEAVE FOR MANCHESTER UNITED TODAY
Darren Bent has made it clear that Newcastle United duo Eddie Howe and Callum Wilson wouldn’t leave to join Manchester United.
On paper and historically, Manchester United are a bigger club than Newcastle United, but the two teams have different clouds hovering above their stadiums right now.
At Old Trafford, there are dark clouds and the roof is leaking every time something goes wrong, whereas the sun is shining over St James’ Park.
That was the point ex-Sunderland man Darren Bent was trying to make when stating that Eddie Howe and Callum Wilson wouldn’t leave their current clubs for Manchester United, as he told talkSPORT.
Both teams finished in the Champions League places last season, including Erik ten Hag’s side winning the League Cup at the expense of Eddie Howe’s men.
But that gloss and shine seems to have gone for Erik ten Hag now, with his team suffering a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, which just continues the woeful nature in which they have been performing this term.
That saw Darren Bent and talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein debate if certain individuals, such as Eddie Howe, Callum Wilson and Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, would leave for Manchester United.
Eddie Howe and Callum Wilson at Manchester United…
“By your metric, do you think Eddie Howe would leave Newcastle right now to go to Manchester United,” asked Bent. “Absolutely not,” the former Sunderland man responded to his own question.
TalkSport host Andy Goldstein then stated: “Yes, I do.” to which Bent responded: “Then you are bonkers.”
Goldstein then asked: “Is Man United a bigger club? Do you think any player at Newcastle, wouldn’t leave Newcastle to play for Man United? Do you think Callum Wilson would?”
Bent clearly explained: “Right now? No, no, no,”, as Goldstein added: “Of course he would, What are you talking about?!”
Bent continued: “Right now, where the two clubs are, Eddie Howe isn’t leaving Newcastle and Unai Emery isn’t leaving Villa to go to Manchester United – no one is leaving.
“All the Newcastle players stay where they are. They are more stable. I am not leaving. For what? Stable owner. Good manager. Feel-good factor around the club. What am I leaving for? Mid-table? No thanks! No one is leaving Newcastle or Villa now for Man United.”
The future looks brighter at Newcastle…
There is no doubt that Man United have won trophies in recent years that Newcastle fans are dreaming of adding to their cabinet.
But it can’t be argued that there is a feel-good factor amongst the Toon Army faithful, whilst everything, both on and off the pitch, seems to be going wrong on the red side of Manchester.
Saying that, after ten Premier League games, Newcastle are sitting sixth in the Premier League with 17 points, with Man United two points behind on eighth.
