Wrexham already eyeing ambitious move to sign Europa League star on free transfer this summer

April 3, 2025

Wrexham are pushing for promotion to the Championship and already appear to have an ambitious transfer target in mind for the summer.

Wrexham drew 2-2 at Cambridge United on Tuesday night, dropping two points on the road.

This result wasn’t a major setback, though, as Shrewsbury Town held Wycombe Wanderers to a 0-0 draw.

Wrexham remain in second place in the League One table, though third-placed Wycombe have a game in hand to come.

Wrexham are in a great position to achieve a third straight promotion, but major reinforcements would be needed in the summer window.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds would be prepared to back more signings, and a first summer target now appears to be emerging.

Wrexham interested in signing Tom Lawrence

Wrexham are already interested in signing Rangers playmaker Tom Lawrence.

The Wales international is out of contract this summer and looks set to leave Ibrox on a free transfer.

Lawrence recently scored in a penalty shootout against Fenerbahce, helping Rangers advance in the Europa League.

Going from the Europa League to Wrexham would be quite the move for Lawrence, and it’s suggested that Wrexham are ready to launch an ‘ambitious’ move for his signature.

Lawrence’s wages would not be cheap, meaning McElhenney and Reynolds will have to dig deep to secure his signature.

The 31-year-old will be a man in demand this summer, with Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Coventry City, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion all keen.

Add in European interest from Besiktas, OIympiacos and PAOK, and Wrexham won’t have a clear run at signing Lawrence.

Tom Lawrence could make emotional homecoming
Lawrence would be a real coup for Wrexham and would give Phil Parkinson another creative force.

Lawrence would fit the bill and, if he is ready to put in the hard yards under Parkinson, he could be the man Wrexham need.

A summer move would also see Lawrence make an emotional homecoming, having been born in Wrexham.

Lawrence slipped through Wrexham’s net as a kid, instead joining Manchester United’s youth ranks.

Wrexham may be in a position to finally sign Lawrence this summer, and whilst there is major competition, the chance to play in this McElhenney and Reynolds project should appeal.
