“We’re in a complicated position,” admits Míchel as Girona prepare to face Barcelona in El Derbi Català

Girona are “in a complicated position” heading into the final block of LaLiga fixtures, Míchel admitted in a press conference on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of el Derbi Català, the 49-year-old spoke about the uncertainty of their top flight survival after a difficult spell of results.
“We’re in a complicated position after six games without a win, that’s the truth. With a win, the team would be close to achieving our objective, which is to stay in the Primera División,” he revealed.
Míchel, who guided Girona into their first-ever UEFA Champions League campaign, emphasised that “winning a match at this stage of the season is so important, and not just because it’s Barça, but because we need it so much.”
“Right now, they’re very good and they’ve got three or four of the best players in the world. It’ll be difficult, but we need three points,” he told reporters.
“They’ve got so many ways in which they can hurt you. Right now, Lamine [Yamal] is the best winger in the world, and Pedri is the best 8 in the world in my opinion. Raphinha’s profoundness and [Robert] Lewandowski’s ability to read the game are key too.”
The Girona boss warned that Barça will be “very hard to stop, but we’ve worked on it.”
Much has been made of the congested fixture schedule, which sees Barcelona host Girona this weekend just three days after their rearranged match against CA Osasuna on Thursday – but Míchel insists that the Blaugrana “are able to play every three days without problems”.
“The schedule affects each and every one of us – Girona will have less than 72 hours between our games against Real Betis and CD Leganés too. I shouldn’t say anything more; we’ve got to play and that’s it. I don’t think they’ll be tired from Thursday’s game.”
