TOTTENHAM TARGET DOESN’T WANT TO JOIN CHELSEA
AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan doesn’t fancy a move to Chelsea this summer amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea seemingly won’t be signing Tottenham Hotspur target Mike Maignan from AC Milan this summer.
That is according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Chelsea contacted Milan to discuss a potential move for Maignan.
Chelsea did make a first offer for Maignan but Milan ‘quickly rejected’ the bid, adamant they will be keeping Maignan.
It’s even added that Maignan doesn’t want to join Chelsea this summer as the idea ‘does not particularly please him’.
Chelsea having no Champions League football means Maignan just isn’t interested, leaving the Blues to look elsewhere.
Edouard Mendy looks unlikely to feature under Mauricio Pochettino and Kepa Arrizabalaga isn’t a particularly convincing first-choice stopper.
That means that Chelsea may be forced to look elsewhere for a stopper, continuing their search despite Maignan’s snub.
Tottenham Hotspur surely won’t sign Mike Maignan either
The links to Chelsea come just days after Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Maignan became clear.
The Athletic claimed earlier this week that Tottenham are focusing on signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Other options are still on the Tottenham radar though and one of them is believed to be Maignan.
Yet if Maignan’s stance on Chelsea is anything to go by, Tottenham should probably forget about him.
Tottenham are just like Chelsea in that they have no Champions League football on offer, or any European football for that matter.
Maignan played in the Champions League semi-finals this year and isn’t looking to take a step back in his career.
The Frenchman is one of the top goalkeepers in Europe and expecting him to go without European action even for one season is seemingly too much.
Tottenham and Chelsea will need to look elsewhere and will ultimately hope for better luck with other goalkeepers with Maignan becoming a pipe dream for both.
