Tottenham are interested in signing Man City star Jack Grealish in the summer

July 16, 2025

Tottenham cannot afford to make a mistake in the transfer window if the club wants to build on the Europa League success next season. The Lilywhites have already managed to land Mohammed Kudus on a high-profile deal from West Ham earlier this week. And Daniel Levy must now aim to bring in another wide player to play on the left-flank next season.

The North London club confirmed earlier that Mathys Tel signed a permanent deal to stay at N17 for the foreseeable future. But after Heung-Min Son’s recent developments regarding his future and the South Korean’s steady decline in form, the fans are hoping that another wide player is brought in to compete with Tel for a spot in the starting eleven.

The Lilywhites must look to bring in a player that has the experience of playing at the highest level. Thomas Frank wants his team to compete hard on all four fronts next season. To achieve that, Spurs must make sure that the right players are brought in to bolster the depth and add more quality in the final third of the pitch.

Tottenham should not sign Man City star Jack Grealish
A lot of fans are on the fence as Tottenham eye the possibility of landing Manchester City star Jack Grealish in the summer. The England international has fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola, and it looks increasingly likely that his future lies elsewhere. Earlier report states that the Cityzens have slammed a £40m price tag for Grealish’s services, as the club looks to recoup some of the money spent on him in 2021.

Now, John Wenham has urged Spurs to stay clear of the winger and look for alternatives instead. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“Grealish for me is a non-starter. He’s on huge money, he’s underperformed for several years, and I worry if he’s lost his hunger and appetite that got him to the success that he had. I haven’t seen that player for such a long period now, so I just worry if he can get that back.”

The Lilywhite Rose owner added,

“And I think the move to London could be quite distracting for him. I just think he’s one we should stay clear of, regardless of the price. He hasn’t got that hunger and appetite in him anymore.”

John Wenham points out that Jack Grealish is on huge money at Manchester City, despite underperforming for most seasons at the club. The Lilywhite Rose owner worries that the 29-year-old might not have the hunger and the desire to prove his critics wrong, and that he is not the same player he once was. Wenham also believes that a move to North London might not do him any good, and Spurs should steer clear of the Englishman at all costs.

In an ideal world, signing a player that has won a Treble, and also has immense experience in the Premier League would be a ‘no-brainer’ for Tottenham. But in Grealish’s case, it is better if Spurs opt to not go all-in for the winger as he has time and again showed that he is not the same player he once was during his time at Aston Villa.

It is fair to say that the England international has looked a shadow of himself at the Etihad Stadium. And his massive wages will also pose a problem for the North London club if they want to sign the 29-year-old in the coming weeks.
