‘that Could Be a Possibility’: Unai Emery Confirms £120k-a-week Player Could Leave Aston Villa

August 24, 2023

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is not ruling out the possibility of Lucas Digne leaving Villa Park this summer.

Lucas Digne has been heavily linked with a move away from Aston Villa, and while Emery has stated that the left-back staying is the more likely outcome right now, he has not closed the door on an exit.

“We were managing with him at the beginning of the season of the possibility [him leaving] maybe, if it was good for him, it was good for the club and we could have in the squad two good left-backs like with him and Alex Moreno,” the Villa boss was recently quoted as saying by BirminghamLive.

“That could be a possibility. But today, tonight, he’s more closer to staying here than to leave.”

With Moreno out injured, Emery has been using Digne in the left-back position. The 30-year-old started in Villa’s 5-0 win against Hibernian in the Europa Conference League on Wednesday and made a huge impact, setting up three goals.

According to RMC Sport, Nice are hoping to sign Digne before the transfer window closes, but the Villans’ failure to land a replacement so far is holding up a deal.
