Stalwart Correa set to call time on Atlético career in favor of Liga MX move
Correa’s 11-year stay with Atleti appears to be over.
Atlético Madrid legend Ángel Correa is reportedly in “advanced talks” to join Mexican side Tigres in the summer of 2025.
The Argentine forward looks nailed on to make the trans-atlantic switch, according to multiple sources, which would end his 11-year affiliation with Atlético. According to Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo, Correa has “given the green light” for a move to Liga MX, and contract negotiations are already being finalised — though there is the prospect of late interest from Turkey in the player.
Highly-regarded and well-connected transfer journalist Matteo Moretto adds that the chance of Correa renewing his contract (expiring in 2026) is “almost zero”. The Italian reported on March 8th that talks between Atlético and the World Cup winner’s team had reached a “standstill”.
Correa joins Antoine Griezmann as the second Colchonero player to start talks with a North American club in recent weeks. The Frenchman is said to be closing in on a move to MLS side Los Angeles FC after the European season ends.
