Slumping Vlahovic Hits Rock Bottom in Sampdoria Game

March 13, 2023

Despite multiple attempts, Dusan Vlahovic didn’t manage to snap out of his funk versus Sampdoria. The Serb has gone six matches without hitting the net, his longest dry spell since he burst onto the scenes and became a regular with Fiorentina. He last found the target versus Nantes nearly a month ago

As a further signal of how things are going for him, the marksman smacked the woodwork on a penalty kick. It was just his second error in 16 attempts. The teammates looked for him often and with quality feeds. Fabio Miretti found him with a great through ball in the first half, but he took long to fire off. Filip Kostic uncorked a few precise crosses in his direction. On the best one, rookie goalie Martin Turk denied his point-blank header, and Matias Soulé pounced on the rebound in the stoppage time.

The positive aspect was that Vlahovic was more engaged than in recent showings. He had 50 touches, while he had just 18 versus Roma last week. He put up eight shots, setting his new season high, but only one was on target.

In the season, the center-forward has bagged 10 goals in 25 appearances for a total of 1944 minutes, therefore with an average of a goal every 194 minutes, way worse than in the past campaign.

Massimiliano Allegri encouraged Vlahovic in his post-game remarks

“He played a good game. The goals will come. He fared better technically speaking. He has to be calmer, as he sometimes mismanages his energy. We shouldn’t forget that he’s been at Juventus for just a year. He’ll improve once he becomes less hasty.”
