Serie A side Make Concrete Move for Celtic Star
Arne Engels is attracting serious interest from Serie A side Atalanta, with the Italian outfit reportedly preparing a move for the Celtic midfielder.
It’s said that the side sitting 3rd in the Serie A has made ‘concrete moves’ for the player.
The Belgian, who joined the Hoops last summer for a club-record fee, has made a strong impression in his debut campaign. Featuring in over 50 games this season, Engels has offered consistency and attacking threat from midfield, hitting double figures for both goals and assists.
Atalanta’s admiration of Engels is understood to be longstanding. The Bergamo-based club have previously explored moves for Celtic midfielders and now appears to be focusing its attention on the 21-year-old. They attempted to land Matt O’Riley last summer, and were interested in the Belgian midfielder in January.
Celtic are not expected to welcome bids lightly. Engels is tied down on a long-term deal and the the manager sees him as central to their plans moving forward, particularly as they prepare for next season’s Champions League qualifiers. With interest from Italy now building, it may take a significant offer to even open the conversation.
The midfielder himself has spoken about how much it would mean to end the campaign with a treble. If he lifts another trophy at Hampden on Saturday, the admiration from Europe’s top leagues is only likely to grow.
