Serie A | Parma 1-3 Atalanta: Seventh Heaven for unstoppable Dea

November 24, 2024

Atalanta registered a seventh consecutive Serie A victory, conquering Parma 3-1 with Mateo Retegui, Ederson and Ademola Lookman goals, while Giorgio Scalvini made his comeback.

La Dea went into the break for international duty on stunning form, but Sead Kolasinac, Davide Zappacosta, Ben Godfrey and Gianluca Scamacca were on the treatment table. The Ducali had Hernani back on the bench after injury, but still missing Adrian Bernabé, Mateusz Kowalski, Alessandro Circati and Lautaro Valenti.

See how it unfolded on the Liveblog.

It took under four minutes to break the deadlock and for Capocannoniere Mateo Retegui to increase his tally, not even needing to jump as he steered in the Raoul Bellanova cross from the right.

Ange-Yoan Bonny turned his marker to curl inches wide, then Ademola Lookman had it in the net again at the eighth minute, but was offside on the Mario Pasalic back-heel assist.

Pasalic failed to get the tap-in and Retegui’s glancing header flashed inches wide, but the Capocannoniere incredibly ballooned over from an Ederson pull-back with the goal gaping.

Lookman also steered a header just wide from another Bellanova cross, but Atalanta did double their lead when Matteo Ruggeri rolled across the face of goal from the left for the Ederson tap-in at the back post.

Zion Suzuki made a tricky save on Lookman’s solo effort moments later, then got down quickly to fingertip the Ruggeri angled drive past the far post.

Marco Carnesecchi was also called into action on the stroke of half-time, getting down to push away the Bonny strike set up by Marco Carnesecchi and the sudden long-range snapshot.

Parma did get back into it after the restart, as Cancellieri gathered with his back to goal, squirmed between Rafael Toloi and Isak Hien to smash left-footed into the roof of the net with a ferocious finish.

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini received two yellow cards in under a minute for dissent and was sent off from the touchline.

Toloi got into a muddle and kicked a clearance onto his own arm, which cannot be considered intentional handball.

Lookman had the ball in the net on 72 minutes, but again was offside, this time from the Ederson back-heel flick.

It was third time lucky for the Nigeria international, who was at the back post to cushion in the Juan Cuadrado cross from the right from point-blank range.

There was even more good news for Atalanta and Italy, because Giorgio Scalvini made his return ahead of schedule, having undergone surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in June.
