Sergio Ramos and Neymar leave their PSG futures up in the air

January 22, 2023

It’s not clear what will happen with either player

Paris Saint-Germain’s Spanish center-back Sergio Ramos is another player who will have to negotiate a contract extension this summer, as is the case with Lionel Messi.

Ramos, who is paid six million euros per season, is out of contract in 2023 and will have to sit down with Nasser Al-Khelaifi to discuss his future.

However, the possible arrival of Inter center-back Milan Skriniar could complicate his continuity at the French club.

According to L’Equipe and Le Parisien, Skriniar already has a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.

The performances of the Spanish international have not been as satisfactory as expected. In his first campaign, injuries were the main problem and the season was lost.

In this second campaign, his gametime has improved and he has played a total of 25 games, being a key player in Christophe Galtier‘s scheme at the heart of the defense, but that might not be enough to earn a new deal.

Neymar’s future is uncertain too

Meanwhile, Neymar is another player who might be in his final months at PSG, even though he has a contract until 2025.

There was already talk last summer, after the renewal of Kylian Mbappe essentially put him on the exit ramp, that the Parisian board would agree to sell the Brazilian player in order to restructure the club and get rid of his high salary.

But, the truth is that for the moment the Brazilian star does not want to leave Paris Saint-Germain, which makes it difficult. Plus, few clubs would be able to afford the high price of his contract.

What seems clear is that everything will depend on sporting results. If PSG fail to achieve their objectives, especially in the Champions League, changes will be demanded and Sergio Ramos and Neymar could be part of them.

But, both are two world-class players and it is well known what they can contribute at key moments of the season.
