Roy Keane Man United blast Newcastle will love ahead of Boxing Day showdown
Roy Keane has unleashed another verbal volley at his old club Manchester United, just days before Newcastle head to Old Trafford for Boxing Day’s Premier League clash between the two sides.
Ruben Amorim’s side lost 2-1 at Aston Villa on Sunday, with a Morgan Rogers braced giving the home side the three points. However, Keane was unhappy by key areas of the Red Devis’ displa, and question players such as Diogo Dalot.
The former Man United skipper believes the Portuguese player’s performance warrants scrutiny from Amorim and suggests that Dalot needs to ‘roll his sleeves up’.
Keane pointed to Roger’s opening goal at Villa Park as a cause for concern. The Sky Sports analyst questioned whether United had adequately recognised the impending threat during the build-up, reports the Mirror.
“You can have all the talent in the world,” Keane said. “We’ve mentioned it time and time again but you’ve got to roll your sleeves up and when the game gets a bit tight there’s moments where you go, ‘I’m just going to do my bit for the team’.
“There’s too many players, like Dalot, that just don’t do enough.
“I won’t use the word cheating but they’re not just doing enough. And after the game I’d be looking at him – I wouldn’t be looking at other bits of the game.
“Same for the first goal when Rogers gets the ball wide. We’re all sitting there and we know there’s danger. Do they not know there’s danger?”.
“Out of possession they’re one of the worst teams in the leage. They cut corners, take too many risks and I’m glad they get punished.”
Man United boss Amorim saw some positives in the game, saying: “I think we did really well.
“I think we were the better team today. “If you take the first minutes of the game, I think we create our chances.
“We have been really consistent in the way we play and create chances.
“We defend well, we left one against one most of the times, especially when Martinez had the ball. We tried to recover really fast.
“Again, I think we play well but the feeling is that the frustration is still there, so we need to take the good things and to prepare the next one.”
