Roy Keane made interesting observation watching Man Utd celebrations on Wembley pitch

February 27, 2023

Manchester United legend Roy Keane made an interesting point while watching the likes of Casemiro and Raphael Varane celebrate following the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup triumph.

Erik ten Hag won his first trophy as United boss as he guided his side to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle under the iconic Wembley arch. Goals from Casemiro and a Sven Botman own goal ensured the Premier League giants ended their six-year wait for silverware, though the Magpies own 54-year wait continues.

The Carabao Cup is often the subject of derision from some and tossed aside as a less important competition, but judging by their celebrations on the pitch come the full-time whistle the United players certainly don’t feel that way.

Even the most experienced players in the squad such as former Real Madrid duo Casemiro and Varane were overjoyed at the result. Both of the pair have won club football’s biggest honours, including the Champions League, yet celebrated this success in similar fashion.

It was something that did not go undetected in the eyes of United icon Keane, who pointed out the manner in which they were celebrating suggests United means a great deal to them.

“There is a bit of dancing there, it’s actually quite good to be fair,” Keane joked. “He’s [Casemiro] amazing and you have to get up close to him and see how good he is, he now understands the English game and if you look at the players at United, it looks like it is the first trophy that they have won, and these players are used to winning these trophies.”

“He is a man for the big occasion,” Neville claimed. “He is the glue in this team, the one that holds them together.

“I had my doubts when he signed, the size of the wages, of the contract. Was he coming for the holiday? But no – the impact he has had on this football club is outstanding.”
