Roma’s Ricardo Rios move in danger as Benfica begin negotiations

July 20, 2025

Ricardo Rios is one of the players to watch out for in the summer market after his exploits in the Club World Cup. It looked like Roma were going to beat everyone to the punch for the Palmeiras midfielder but things have changed over the last couple of days, potentially putting the deal in danger.

Firstly, Benfica have showed up, with their Sporting Director reportedly making the trip to Brazil to finalize the deal. As per Palmeiras, Roma’s offer was of €30m including variables whereas the Brazilian club want that amount fixed and variables in addition. Rios, the Colombian international seems to prioritise a move to the Giallorossi but things could change soon, as per calciomercato.com.

Meanwhile Roma have already signed a midfielder, Neil El Ayanoui from Lens. He has been signed for €23 million plus €2 million in bonuses and will soon have his medical. Although Roma have still kept the door open for Rios, the deal is now in real danger of not taking place.
