ROMA CONSIDER BOLOGNA’S THIAGO MOTTA AS JOSE MOURINHO REPLACEMENT

May 8, 2023

Serie A side Roma are monitoring the situation of Bologna boss Thiago Motta, who is seen as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese’s future at the Giallorossi is currently uncertain, with Roma seemingly struggling to qualify for the top four and the ex-Tottenham boss constantly being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Reports in Italy have previously stated that if Roma don’t finish inside the top four, Mourinho will leave the club.

Il Messaggero today have reported that while Mourinho will hold talks with the club at the end of the season, the Giallorossi are already making preparations for a potential exit. It is stated that when Mourinho seemed tempted by the offer from the Portuguese national team, Thiago Motta is someone who was keenly observed and that continues to be the case.

If Mourinho leaves, Motta could be a key candidate to replace his former manager. Sporting director Tiago Pinto is said to have a keen liking for Benfica’s Roger Schmidt and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim. The dream scenario would be the appointment of Antonio Conte, but it could be a massive financial burden for the club.
