Rice on the Ings effect

February 26, 2023

Danny Ings emerged as the hero on his first start for the Irons bringing some much need elation to our faces

He did exactly what he was bought to do and throughout his career despite unfortunate spells of injury – score goals.

For yesterday at least he proved the answer to a problem that has haunted us all season and although they weren’t among the best he will ever score, who cares?

Declan Rice was particularly impressed as he saw the former Villa player = transferred for £15 million – pay off a couple of hefty chunks of the fee

It will rise by another £3 million should he help us avoid relegation and that too will be worth every penny.

Declan scored the goal of the match of course but the captain was keen to discuss the Ings efforts which were scored within a couple of minutes before he and Mikey Antonio added the third and fourth.

Commenting after the game he said: ““When we signed him, I knew straight away what we were bringing in, He is a born goal scorer and I told the boys before the game that he will score goals if we give him chances.

“Whether they come off his shin or whatever, it’s a goal and that’s what he is there for. He gave us the confidence to push on and then score four.”

And of his own goal he said: “I love that zone around the edge of the box “[It’s an area] where I can really set it up, pass the keeper, and bring it back in.

“Luckily today, I got it spot on – and to score a goal, there is nothing better.”
