Reijnders joins Milan’s long Dutch legacy – details of the €20m+ deal

July 19, 2023

When thinking of the great AC Milan teams it is difficult not to think with an orange tinge given the three Dutchman who lit up the side just over 30 years ago.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport talks about the latest player to come to Milan who hails from the Netherlands in Tijjani Reijnders. He joins to strengthen the midfield – together with Ruben Loftus-Cheek – after the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle.

Reijnders was born in 1998 and he had a very impressive 2022-23 season in which he racked up 7 goals and 12 assists in 54 games in the last season with AZ Alkmaar across the Eredivisie, Conference League and cup competitions.

He underwent his medical with the Diavolo yesterday morning at La Madonnina clinic of Milan then had hit fitness tests at the Centro Ambrosiano before going to Casa Milan to sign his contract.

The paper believe he has signed four-year contract, with a deadline therefore set for June 2027 and a salary of €1.7m net per season.

Reijnders will have his first proper outing tomorrow evening at 17:00 CEST, when the Rossoneri will face Lumezzane in the first friendly match of the 2023-24 season at Milanello.

The 24-year-old will leave on Friday 21 July together with his new team-mates for the Soccer Champions Tour, where Milan will play Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona in the west of the USA.

Milan paid €20m plus bonuses for Reijnders, making him the fifth-most expensive Dutchman to play in Serie A. Ahead of him are Jaap Stam, Clarence Seedorf twice (the first time with Inter, the second time with Milan) and Matthijs De Ligt.
