Real Madrid ready to bring back defender next season

April 24, 2024

Real Madrid are enjoying another fantastic season, defying all odds and expectations. Considering their lack of depth and constant injury problems, one would expect the club to struggle. But there just seems to be something special about this team, which helps them do things that other can only imagine. The La Liga title looks like a mere formality, as they have an 11-point lead with six games to go. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have to be considered the favourites to win the Champions League too.

So, this team’s achievements and spirit have to be applauded. But at the same time, one has to recognise that there is room for improvement.

One area where Real Madrid could do with some reinforcements is centre-back. They have been linked with players like Leny Yoro of Lille, Antonio Silva of Benfica, Ousmane Diomande of Sporting Lisbon and a few others. But the answer could lie closer to home.

As reported by AS, Real Madrid decided months ago that it has Rafa Marin for the squad for next season. As a fourth central defender, if Nacho leaves, or in competition with him. His year at Alaves is confirming him as a defender with a level for Los Blancos.

Marin has long been regarded as one of the best youngsters in world football. It is almost unbelievable that he is yet to make an appearance for Real Madrid at the senior level. He will be turning 22 next month.

The loan spell at Alaves has done Marin a world of good. The centre-back has been a nailed-on starter for them.

Alaves actually have one of the best defensive records in the league. They have conceded 38 goals so far this season. That is the best outside the top 8. It is also just one more than FC Barcelona, the same as Atletico Madrid and two less than Girona. No wonder Real Madrid want Marin back.
