Real Madrid player makes Lisandro Martinez claim after incident

July 28, 2023

Real Madrid got themselves a very promising result in pre-season as they defeated Manchester United by a 2-0 scoreline. Los Blancos’ blockbuster signing of the summer, Jude Bellingham, continues to impress as well. And if continues on this path, he is going to start the campaign as a nailed on starter.

Bellingham had put in a great performance against AC Milan in the previous friendly. He went one better this time around, scoring a beautiful goal, as he chipped the ball over Andre Onana to open the scoring against Manchester United.

Real Madrid scored another incredible goal on the day. Joselu, who has been brought in on loan from Espanyol, found the back of the Manchester United net with a bicycle kick late in the second half.

Another incident from the game grabbed a lot of eyeballs though. And that was when Bellingham did not take too kindly to a tackle that Lisandro Martinez had made on him. The Englishman looked furious and it was certainly a challenge that had no place in a pre-season friendly.

While Bellingham might not have been happy with the Argentine’s tackle, he certainly had only positive things to say about Martinez after the game. As reported by The Guardian, the Real Madrid player said:

“I know what goes on on the pitch stays on the pitch. I saw him at the end of the game and wished him well. I can respect that when two players are trying to win for their team and can come together and be respectful after the game. He is a great competitor and a great player. Just like me, he wants to win. Sometimes it spills over.”

Martinez was criticised a lot for his tackles in Manchester United’s earlier pre-season friendly with Arsenal as well. And on another day, Bellingham could have ended up picking up injury due to the challenge.

Thankfully, Bellingham is fine and is looking like quite the player. Real Madrid seem to have pulled off another masterstroke and found themselves an integral part of their midfield for the next decade-and-a-half to come.

Real Madrid have two more pre-season games to play, against Barcelona and Juventus. Then they will kick-off the La Liga campaign against Athletic Bilbao in the middle of August.
