Real Madrid get stern message from Leverkusen on Alonso and Wirtz – ‘They are comfortable’

February 5, 2025

Bayer Leverkusen have firmly signalled their determination to retain two of their most sought-after assets, head coach Xabi Alonso and star midfielder Florian Wirtz as Real Madrid’s interest circles.

Simon Rolfes, the club’s sporting director, shared the club’s optimism about keeping both figures beyond the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to Rolfes, both Alonso and Wirtz are under contract and feel at home with Leverkusen.

The club remains engaged in negotiations for a new contract with Wirtz, whose current deal runs until June 2027. Although there are still some details to finalise, Leverkusen are hopeful about reaching an agreement that further secures the midfielder’s future.

“Both have contracts with us and feel comfortable. A new contract for Wirtz? We still have to clarify a few details,” said Rolfes as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Targets for Real Madrid
Alonso has been a transformative figure at the club since taking the reins. He guided Leverkusen to a historic campaign, culminating in their first-ever Bundesliga title.

Unsurprisingly, his remarkable success has caught the attention of major European clubs like Real Madrid.
