Real Madrid eyeing three Barcelona targets to bolster their defense

May 6, 2023

Being one of the weakest links in the FC Barcelona squad, the club has been planning to strengthen the right-back position. While the club has identified a number of players for this position, they can face immense competition from the traditional rivals, Real Madrid, especially as relations between the two clubs have declined in recent months.

Mundo Deportivo has outlined three such players, whom Barcelona are targeting, but where they can face competition from Real Madrid as well. These players are:

Juan Foyth:

Foyth has been on Catalan’s radar for some time now, and his performances in La Liga with Villareal have convinced Barcelona of the player’s quality.

However, his release clause of €54.6 million might be too much for the Blaugranes, and with reported competition from Real Madrid for the player, this price is not expected to be lowered.

Jeremy Frimpong:

The Dutch fullback has been one of the revelations in the German league this season, as he has played a vital role in helping Bayer Leverkusen get favorable results in Bundesliga and the Europa League.

Barcelona has been interested in the player, but Real Madrid are also interested in him, and might have the edge as the player is currently being coached by a former Los Blancos player, Xabi Alonso.

Diogo Dalot:

Dalot has impressed in his last few seasons with the Red Devils in the Premier League. His contract ends in 2024, which means the Manchester club could be forced into a sale at the end of the season to get an income from the player.

FC Barcelona have been interested in and monitoring the player for a while now, but Madrid also see him as a potential signing.

Thus, FC Barcelona’s quest for a new right-back could prove to be highly difficult, as their financial difficulties are compounded by competition from their traditional rivals.
