Real Madrid agree personal terms with Joselu
Joselu has reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms with Real Madrid, with the completion of the deal being close.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Joselu is a step closer to joining Real Madrid. The two parties reached an agreement over personal terms last week, with the Spanish international keen on joining them. And the Merengues are working on the final details before completing the deal to sign him.
Joselu has seen his stock rise since returning to Spain after a sub-par spell in England. He first made a name for himself during a three-year stint with Deportivo Alaves. And the 33-year-old joined Espanyol last summer following the Basque club’s drop to the Segunda Division. Unfortunately for him, he suffered another relegation this past season.
The Spanish international, who made his debut for La Roja earlier this year, was in fine form in 2022/23. He amassed 17 goals and four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. But the experienced striker could not stop Espanyol from going down to the second tier. Meanwhile, Joselu’s progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will rebuild the offensive unit this summer after losing four attackers for free. Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are the only senior forwards in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. And following the departures of Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard, and Mariano Diaz, Real Madrid will need to make multiple reinforcements.
As for Mariano’s replacement, Joselu’s name has emerged atop Real Madrid’s wishlist. And considering the Spanish international is peaking in his thirties, he can be a solid short-term investment. With Alvaro Rodriguez primed for big things, Joselu’s short-term stint will give the youngster space to grow.
Recent reports have claimed the Merengues have been closing in on securing Joselu’s services. And Fabrizio Romano has revealed that they are working on the final details of the deal. Meanwhile, Real Madrid and the 33-year-old have already reached an agreement over personal terms, which they finalised last week.
Romano has added that the deal will happen in conditions favourable to Real Madrid. And with widespread reports suggesting Joselu will arrive on loan, a temporary arrangement is on the cards. It will be interesting to see if the Spanish international can seal a return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
