Real confirm Hazard departure

Real Madrid have confirmed that they’ve reached an agreement with Eden Hazard to terminate his contract with the club on June 30th, 2023, a year before its original expiration date.

The 32-year-old winger, who joined Real from Chelsea in 2019 for a reported fee of €120 million, has completely failed to justify the investment made in that transfer, making no more than 76 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring seven goals and producing just 12 assists. Spread across four years, that amounts to 19 games, less than two goals and three assists per season.

Hazard’s underwhelming spell at the Santiago Bernabeu can be explained up to a point through injuries, as well as the breakthrough of Vinicius Junior who has established himself as one of the best in the world on the left attacking flank, Hazard’s preferred position.

Interestingly enough, Hazard will leave Madrid heavily decorated, having been a part of the squad that won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey trophy, as well as two Spanish Super Cups.
