Rangers look at third striker target after Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers
The latest Rangers transfer news claims the club is looking to sign Bordeaux striker Josh Maja on top of Serie A strike pair Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers.
According to the Rangers Review, 24-year-old Nigerian international forward Josh Maja is a legitimate Ibrox transfer target but the latest news coming out of Bordeaux complicates the deal.
The French club are appealing the decision to award Rodez a pivotal Ligue 2 victory following the abandonment of their final game of the season due to a fan invading the pitch.
This result has condemned Bordeaux to another season in the French second flight and as a result, they cannot activate a special option on the contract of Josh Maja amid those links to Rangers.
This option would allow Bordeaux to extend Josh Maja’s contract by another year but now the striker is set to see his current deal, signed following a switch from Sunderland in January 2019, expire in a matter of weeks.
As a result, no decision has been made on the future of Josh Maja and Rangers are being made to wait, with the contract situation unlikely to change until the Bordeaux dispute is resolved.
Rangers target Josh Maja on top of Lammers & Dessers
The striker, who scored 17 goals last season, is said to be a “long-term target” of the Ibrox club’s with Josh Maja a “legitimate” Rangers option this summer despite the interest in Dutch striker Sam Lammers and Nigerian counterpart Cyriel Dessers.
Rangers have officially announced a four-year deal for Atalanta forward Sam Lammers, believed to have cost £3m, with the striker the club’s fourth signing of the window.
The Gers are also widely reported to be in the hunt for Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers, who is believed to be valued at around £5m.
If Josh Maja is to also join Michael Beale’s side, he would become the club’s third main striker target in a busy window at the top end of the pitch at Rangers.
