PSV looking to buy Malik Tillman but Bayern can get in their way
Bayern’s new loan strategy is definitely quite interesting
Malik Tillman has had a really successful year. After suffering a horribly disappointing ACL injury in 2020, he has fought back, gone on successive loans and grown so much that he is now playing an important role on loan for the runaway Eredivisie league leaders (seriously, they have won every single game so far, how is that even possible) in both the domestic league and Champions League. Naturally, it seems that PSV would like to keep to trigger the option to buy they negotiated into his loan contract and have even hinted at it publicly.
However, Bayern Munich still has the chance to stop PSV from acquiring the American international. Despite the buy option, Eindhoven Dagblad report, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that Tillman’s parent club has a clause in the contract that allows them to cancel the 14 million euro buy option. But Bayern will have to pay a compensation in order to activate this clause. What exactly the amount is that allows Bayern to keep Tillman is not mentioned in the report.
Remember, this exactly what Bayern did to retain Tillman just last summer. Rangers had acquired Tillman on loan and had an option to buy of 5 million, but Bayern paid a compensation in order to negate that clause. It seems that Bayern went with the exact same approach with the loan to PSV.
Tz’s Philipp Kessler also tweeted out this information, as well:
PSV Eindhoven’s purchase option for Malik Tillman is 12.5 million euros. If the Dutch want to take this, FC Bayern can essentially “buy” it for around 3 million €. For example, it makes sense if Munich wants to bring Tillman back and get a better offer for him.
At this stage of Tillman’s development, though, it is difficult to see what Bayern would do with Tillman were they to cancel his clause. Integrate him into the first team? Entertain offers bigger than 14 million for the former Greuther Fürth academy player? Whichever choice Bayern makes, it seems the noise about Tillman’s future will not decrease anytime soon.
