PSG Gains Upper Hand Against Barcelona Ahead of Champions League Clash
The Ligue de Football Professionnel have handed Paris Saint-Germain an advantage over FC Barcelona ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash next month.
PSG was originally scheduled to face FC Lorient on April 14, right before the second leg against Barcelona. However, the LFP is giving a helping hand to French clubs remaining in European competitions.
The LFP announced on Thursday (h/t Sport.fr) the postponement of Matchday 29 fixtures involving clubs alive in European competitions, including PSG.
After their victory against Real Sociedad, PSG gears up to face FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals on April 10 and 16. To prepare adequately, their Ligue 1 match against FC Lorient, originally scheduled for Matchday 29, has been moved to April 24.
This delay presents manager Luis Enrique with a prime opportunity to fine-tune his strategy for the upcoming showdown. Furthermore, amidst the relentless pace of upcoming competitions, this week of rest holds crucial significance for PSG and other European Cup contenders.
It will be interesting to see if this break proves an advantage for the Parisians. As for Barcelona, they’ll face Cadiz on April 13, heading into the second leg.
