Portuguese star offers himself to Barcelona, gets go-ahead from Atletico Madrid
In recent weeks, it was expected that FC Barcelona would not make any move in the market other than for an attacking midfielder or a right-back. However, recent reports indicate that the Catalan club can move for another striker as well.
According to Spanish news outlet, Diario AS, the Portuguese youngster Joao Felix is closer than ever to playing for his childhood dream club, FC Barcelona. Speculation about a potential move of the youngster to Catalonia has been sparked by comments made by the player recently in which he confessed his admiration for the Catalan club.
As Fabrizio Romano has reported, the player commented that “I’d love to play for Barça… Barcelona has always been my first choice and I’d love to join Barça… It was always my dream since I was a kid… If it happens, it will be a dream come true for me”.
The report from Diario AS claims that Felix was close to a move to Camp Nou in the winter market of 2022, and Atletico and FC Barcelona had also reached an agreement for the transfer of the player, but the Madrid club ultimately backed out of the operation.
However, this time Atletico have given their nod to Felix to make his dream move. The operation would involve a loan move with the option to purchase the player at the end of the season. FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has also long wished to sign Felix, believing he would be the icing for the new Barcelona project.
The Catalan club has also been working on the financial aspects of this operation, and has set out the figure they would need for this operation to be successfully completed. The report further indicates that the move can materialize within this week.
