Player loves ‘atmosphere’ at club where Man Utd are set to face crucial fixture

November 1, 2023

Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has opened up on his admiration for the famous Galatasaray atmosphere ahead of a crucial Champions League tie at the stadium later in November.

The summer signing from Fenerbahce is still a new face at Carrington, joining on transfer deadline day.

Altay Bayindir is yet to make his debut, although he could get the nod in January with Andre Onana heading to the African Cup of Nations.

Altay Bayindir yet to make Manchester United debut
If there is one player prepared for what could be pivotal Champions League clash away at Galatasaray at the end of November, it is Bayindir.

Speaking on the Manchester United podcast, he says that the impassioned Galatasaray fanbase made quite the impression on him during his time across the Istanbul divide.

“Galatasaray matches were the biggest derby,” Bayindir recalls. “The matches we played against Besiktas were also big matches, but Galatasaray was different. And I loved that atmosphere.”

United face Galatasaray test in Istanbul
Erik ten Hag’s hopes of bringing knockout stage Champions League football to Old Trafford were hit hard by a shock home defeat to Galatasaray a couple of weeks ago.

Bayindir was on the bench for that 3-2 loss. He is yet to make his debut for the Red Devils, Ten Hag determined to build up Andre Onana’s confidence after a couple of high-profile mistakes since arriving from Inter Milan.

Onana has been a man revived of late, following up that last-gasp Copenhagen penalty save with an ‘incredible’ display in Sunday’s Manchester derby.

That has put United back on course, and a win away at Copenhagen will set up a massive game in Turkey.
