Official: Gavi returns as Barcelona name squad list for Sevilla clash

October 20, 2024

Barcelona have announced their matchday squad for the upcoming home clash against Sevilla, and it features several key players, including Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Dani Olmo, and Lamine Yamal.

Most notably, Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been included in the squad for the first time under Hansi Flick. Despite this, Flick has already confirmed that Inaki Pena will start in goal for the match.

Additionally, reserve team goalkeeper Diego Kochen has received medical clearance to return to action and has also been included in the squad. His presence further boosts Barcelona’s options, especially given the tough fixtures ahead.

Boost for Barcelona
Both Fermin and Olmo have successfully recovered from their respective muscle injuries, and their return is a welcome boost for the team.

Fermin is expected to feature more prominently, as Flick has praised his impressive training performances, suggesting that he will get valuable minutes on the pitch against Sevilla.

In contrast, the coaching staff is being more cautious with Olmo, with a focus on ensuring he is fully fit for Barcelona’s important upcoming fixture against Bayern Munich.

Gavi’s return to the squad marks a significant moment for Barcelona, as the young midfielder has not played for almost a year due to a serious cruciate ligament injury.

His recovery has been long and challenging, but his return to matchday action is a positive sign. However, with Gavi’s situation, Flick will likely manage his minutes carefully, given the physical demands of the upcoming matches.

Barcelona’s squad is starting to shape up well, and Flick will have important decisions to make regarding rotations as the team prepares for the demanding fixtures ahead.
