MICAH RICHARDS NAMES THE MANCHESTER UNITED DEFENDER WHO WAS ‘EXCELLENT’ VS LIVERPOOL AT OLD TRAFFORD

April 8, 2024

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are having a disappointing season, while Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could win the Premier League title.

Manchester United and Liverpool are two of the biggest clubs in the world and are expected to be successful season after season.

While United struggle to end up in the top four of the Premier League table these days, Liverpool have become the main force capable of stopping Manchester City.

So, when United took on Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s side were the favourites to pick up all three points.

However, the Merseyside club needed a late penalty from Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah to salvage a point from the encounter. The match finished in a 2-2 draw.

Micah Richards has been reflecting on the match, and the BBC Sport pundit has mentioned one particular United player who did well.

Micah Richards praises ‘excellent’ Manchester United player vs Liverpool
The former Manchester City defender has hailed Willy Kambwala for the way he coped with the pressure of playing against a formidable Liverpool attack.

Richards has noted how the 19-year-old centre-back, once linked with Liverpool, did not collapse after making mistakes and produced a very mature display.

The youngster started alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the United defence and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Richards said about Kambwala on The Rest is Football podcast: “I know we talked a little bit about Mainoo, but I want to give a quick shout-out to Kambwala as well at the back.

“I mean, he started off quite nervous, as you would expect. Not that many appearances in the Premier League, but to come into a game of that magnitude, it’s daunting for any player, and I just thought even when he made mistakes, he didn’t make a second and a third mistake.

“He composed himself, and if you are looking at the whole game overall, I thought he was excellent. I think he is only 19 as well.”

Willy Kambwala could be a Manchester United star
In my opinion, Manchester United could have a future star in Willy Kambwala. I think that he has the potential to become a big player for the Red Devils in the coming years.

Kambwala started for only the second time for United when he took to the Old Trafford pitch against Liverpool. He was not at his absolute best against Jurgen Klopp’s side, but he did make some good interventions and a very good recovery tackle.

I think that the teenager could progress and develop in the coming years if he gets a decent amount of playing time.
