Memphis Depay confirm he’s staying at Barcelona
Memphis Depay has confirmed on social media that he will be staying at Barcelona.
The Blaugrana have been trying to shift the Netherlands international all summer long just one year after joining from Lyon. The club even took his number nine shirt and reassigned it to marquee signing Robert Lewandowski.
Premier League sides Manchester United – who Memphis played for between 2015 and 2017 – and Tottenham were linked with a move, while Chelsea explored a deadline day deal for the Dutchman.
But the forward took to Twitter to announce that he is staying put at Camp Nou for the time being.
“I have decided to stay at Barça!” Memphis wrote. “Fully committed to contribute to the club’s sporting success.”
Barcelona managed to shift Martin Braithwaite on Thursday, terminating his contract before the Dane sealed a move to city rivals Espanyol.
While Memphis’ move to Chelsea fell through, fellow forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will complete a deadline day switch to Stamford Bridge.
Marcos Alonso, who Barcelona have courted for several months now, will head to Catalonia as part of that deal.
