Manchester United boss gives coy response when asked about links to PSG star Neymar

May 25, 2023

Erik ten Hag used the standard words to respond to the rumours linking Neymar to Manchester United
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag did not reveal much when asked about the rumours that have linked Neymar to the Red Devils.

A day or two ago, Sky Sports transfer live reported that United are set to hold talks with Paris-Saint Germain to sign Neymar this summer.

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that the Brazilian superstar wants to leave the French champions at the end of this season. His current contract there expires in the summer of 2025.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Chelsea game, here’s what ten Hag said about the Neymar to United rumours.

This short and sweet response although gave nothing away, it also did not quash any rumours. So, maybe the club is plotting a move for the former Barcelona star. Something to keep an eye on when the transfer window starts.

In the last few years, United have made high-profile signings for the sake of the name at the back of the shirt and things have not worked out on the field.

The fear could be that if they pursue a deal to sign Neymar, a similar outcome can be expected. As good a player as the 31-year-old is on the ball, he can be erratic off the ball, something that cannot be tolerated under the total football style of ten Hag.

Moreover, the Brazilian is 31 now and entering a phase of his career where a stiff challenge like United should not be taken upon.

All in all, United can do a lot better in the transfer window rather than chasing the signature of Neymar. They must sign a striker and focus on adding quality to the central midfield department.
