Manchester City closely monitoring former PSG and Barcelona wonderkid with 4.7 million Instagram followers
Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly keeping a close eye on one of Europe’s most exciting and prominent young talents.
That interest concerns PSV’s 20 year-old attacking midfielder Xavi Simons – a well-known face in European football despite his young age, and still developing career at the senior level of the game.
The Dutch international was thrown into the limelight by exciting onlookers with his performances for Barcelona’s youth academy – where he spent nine years – before moving on to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
After three seasons with the Ligue 1 giants, Simons moved on once more to Dutch side PSV, where he has continued to go on to even greater things and that has seemingly attracted the attentions of the current Premier League champions.
That is the understanding of Scouts in Attendance, who claim that Manchester City have been ‘watching’ Xavi Simons ‘closely’.
Across 32 Eredivisie appearances during the 2022/23 season thus far, Simons has scored an impressive 16 goals and registered a further nine assists – averaging a goal contribution every 105.6 minutes this campaign.
Xavi Simons’ exciting style of play has also sky-rocketed his social media presence to a level rarely seen by professional footballers at this stage of their careers, with the youngster having a following of 4.7 million on Instagram alone.
Simons – who is also a UNICEF Social Ambassador in the Netherlands – is a hugely marketable talent in the football world, which is an element of the person that increases their transfer value in itself.
