Man Utd transfer round-up: Erik ten Hag sends Marcus Rashford message amid PSG concern

January 26, 2023

Marcus Rashford continues to be linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, with the January transfer window marking 18 months until his contract at Manchester United expires

There’s only a matter of days left of the January transfer window and Erik ten Hag is putting the final touches on his squad for the second half of the season.

Manchester United remain the only Premier League side left in four competitions, as Ten Hag targets a first trophy for the Red Devils in nearly six years – the club’s longest drought since 1983. The Dutchman has already bolstered his squad with the arrivals of Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst, both on loan, but he’s hinted that there could be more additions before next Tuesday’s deadline.

Ten Hag sends Rashford message amid PSG links

Erik ten Hag has urged Marcus Rashford to stay at Manchester United as links of a move to Paris Saint-Germain persist. The 25-year-old forward is currently in the form of his life but his entourage held talks with PSG last summer regarding a potential move to the French capital when his stock was far lower, and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed their interest in December.

As negotiations over a new contract at United go on, with the club yet to tie Rashford down beyond June 2024, Ten Hag has sent him a message in a plea for him to remain at Old Trafford. “I think he understands Man United is his club, that’s first but also, in this environment, in this team, I think he is playing his best football,” the Red Devils boss stated on Sunday.

“He is improving and that is about him because he’s working on the good things. He is giving 100 percent energy and he has a good plan and I think also in this team he can bring his qualities. So this team can help him be in the right position and to score goals, which he is good at.

“This team is constructed that his qualities come to the fore and I think he knows that but, definitely yes, he is important for us and if we want to get the success we want, we need him. I hope that all our players can have interest from clubs because that means you do a good job, [that] the team is outperforming so that is what we are aiming for.”
