Man Utd news: Ruben Amorim has already made mind up on one star as Sporting ace teases move
New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been finding his feet at Carrington this week but that hasn’t prevented him from making some big decisions early on
Manchester United are entering a new era with Ruben Amorim now officially at the helm.
Amorim was finally lured away from Sporting Lisbon by the prospect of rebuilding the Premier League giants, who are currently languishing in the bottom half of the table following a woeful start to the season under Erik ten Hag.
The international break means Amorim won’t made his United bow until later this month at Ipswich Town – but it also provides him with a perfect opportunity to settle into his new surroundings.
As we build up to that match, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest big news from in and around Old Trafford.
Amorim makes brutal call
Ruben Amorim is said to have already decided that Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is ‘not adequate’ after taking over at the club.
Zirkzee, a Netherlands international, only joined the Red Devils from the summer in a £36million transfer from Bologna. But he has managed just one goal in 16 appearances.
Amorim’s predecessor, Erik ten Hag, was said to have harboured concerns over Zirkzee following his arrival – and it seems as though the Portuguese coach is also of the same opinion, leaving Zirkzee in limbo.
Ruben Amorim has earmarked Mason Mount for a big role in his new-look Manchester United team following the midfielder’s return from injury.
The former Chelsea star was signed in a £60million deal by Erik ten Hag last summer but has struggled to showcase his best form at Old Trafford due to a string of injury issues.
But Mount is back in the fold – and he could be one of those who benefits most from a change in approach from Amorim, who is known to favour the same 3-4-3 shape that Mount thrived in under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
