Man Utd make fresh offer for Antony but Ajax stand firm over £78m valuation
Ajax are standing firm of their valuation of Brazilian forward Antony and have rejected a new offer from Manchester United, sources have confirmed to 90min.
The Brazilian has long been manager Erik ten Hag’s preferred attacking signing – as 90min confirmed earlier this summer – and the interest has remained all summer on United’s part, despite the club looking at a host of other options in the last month.
United were ready to meet Ajax’s then asking price of €80m at the end of July, but then following a board meeting, the Dutch champions decided to up their valuation to €92m (£78m).
Such a figure would be a club record sale, breaking the £77m mark Barcelona paid in 2019 for Frenkie de Jong, who is coincidentally another player United have been trying to sign all summer.
90min has been told that Ajax are bracing themselves for United to return with a new bid before the end of the transfer window. Antony is desperate to link up with Ten Hag – who was his manager at Ajax until the end of last season – but it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will go as high as £78m.
Antony has unsurprisingly started the Dutch season in fine form, with four goals and two assists from his six games so far.
