Man City ready to complete first major signing of transfer window

Manchester City are set to complete a deal for Brazilian forward Savio in what will be their first major signing of the window

Manchester City are ready to complete their first major signing of the transfer window.

A deal for Troyes winger Savio could be announced as early as this week after the Blues went through all the red tape required to sign the forward from their fellow City Football Group club. City have had to satisfy the Premier League that they are paying fair market value, which some industry experts placed at around £40m.

Savio never played for Troyes but found his form for fellow CFG side Girona, enjoying a remarkable campaign last year with nine goals and nine assists to help the Spanish side to third place in La Liga that qualifies them for the Champions League. The 20-year-old has also worked his way into the Brazil squad and impressed in an underwhelming effort at the Copa America this summer.

Even if he is confirmed as a City player this week, Savio is unlikely to head off on tour with Pep Guardiola’s squad as he continues his rest after the Copa America. When he does return, he will have a good chance of staying in Manchester to play a part in the first team next season.

Savio is unlikely to be joined by many new faces unless there are outgoings in Guardiola’s squad, with interest in RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo dismissed despite an attractive release clause and reports linking the club to the player. Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne are the subject of strong interest from the Saudi Pro League but the Blues are not looking to lose either star.
