Mainz set bumper price tag for Gruda amid Bayern and Leverkusen links

May 30, 2024

Both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are said to be keeping tabs on Brajan Gruda, but Mainz will not let him go on the cheap.

In what turned out to be a breakthrough season for Brajan Gruda in the Bundesliga, the 19-year-old emerged as a regular starter for Mainz, making 28 appearances with four goals and three assists to his name.

His impressive performances appear to have caught the eye of the Bundesliga’s top clubs, with Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart all interested, according to Bild.

Mainz, however, are hoping to keep Gruda for another season and have put a €50 million price tag on the 19-year-old in a bid to scare off potential suitors, Bild reports.

The reasoning behind the price is apparently that Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel sold Leroy Sané to Manchester City for 52 million in 2016 when he was at Schalke, and he believes Gruda is better than Sané was at his age.

If Mainz stick to that price, Bayern are the only Bundesliga team that can afford Gruda, the report claims.

Gruda is a German Under-21 international, but has been offered the chance to train with the senior side this week ahead of the Euros.
