Liverpool still lead Mount race despite Arsenal interest
Liverpool are still in pole position to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano, despite Premier League leaders Arsenal expressing an interest in the services of the England international as well.
Liverpool are looking to seriously strengthen their midfield ranks. Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham was their No. 1 target for a long time, but they’ve pulled out of that race eventually, deeming the 19-year-old too expensive given their multiple needs in the transfer market. Mount has been named as one of the club’s alternatives, along with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, as well as Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich.
Arsenal are expected to try and sign Caicedo as well, having failed on that front in January.
Mount is about to enter the final 12 months of contract at Stamford Bridge, and for the moment, there has been no movement on a potential new deal. If that remains the case at the end of the season and the 24-year-old decides to leave, they will probably sanction a sale for the right price.
