Lionel Messi news: Como chief delivers response to rumours linking Inter Miami star with Cesc Fabregas reunion
Como president Mirwan Suwarso has dismissed rumours that Lionel Messi could reunite with Cesc Fabregas in Serie A.
Speculation about a possible move emerged earlier this month when Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, attended Como’s 3-2 win over Lille in a pre-season friendly.
Fabregas then added fuel to the transfer rumours, as he refused to rule out a move for his Barcelona teammate.
“She [Antonela] was here over at my house on vacation for a week with us because Leo was going to be a week away playing in Cincinnati and in New York,” Fabregas told reporters.
“They [Messi’s family] took advantage to take a trip and see friends. We are very close friends, our wives are very good friends, our children are of similar ages.
“After the [Lille] game, I told [Como sporting director] ‘Charly’ Ludi that we can never say that Messi didn’t play at Como because his children were playing here and it’s always beautiful because of the history we have. But no, he Messi is very happy in America so let’s be calm.”

However, Como’s president has now moved to play down the suggestion that Messi could join the Serie A club, despite admitting that it would be a “dream” to recruit the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“It would be a dream if he came here,” Suwarso told La Stampa. “But why would he leave a team where he earns so much money? We haven’t had any contact.”
Suwarso then clarified his remarks to Sky Italia, insisting: “It’s not even a dream, it’s just impossible.”
While a move appears to be off the cards at this stage, Como could keep a close eye on Messi’s situation at Inter Miami in the coming months.
When does Messi’s Inter Miami contract expire?
The Argentine is understood to be happy in Miami, but there is some uncertainty surrounding his future with Javier Mascherano’s side.
As it stands, the 2022 World Cup winner will become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of December.
Messi’s representatives are believed to be in talks over a new deal to extend his stay with the MLS franchise.
The Argentine’s current focus will be on Inter Miami’s opening Leagues Cup game against Mexican side Atlas on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old is set to return to the starting lineup after missing Saturday’s goalless draw against Cincinnati through suspension.
