Lewis Ferguson and Denis Law Serie A records compared as former Dons ace matches Aberdonian’s tally
Lewis Ferguson just can’t stop scoring in Serie A as the former Aberdeen midfielder bagged his third of the season to steer Bologna to victory over Lazio.
It’s another impressive addition to his resume as his strike stunned visitors and took his overall tally since completing his move from Pittodrie in 2022 to 10 goals in the Italian league.
Ferguson left the Dons for around £3million ahead of the start of Jim Goodwin’s first full campaign in charge of Aberdeen, but since then he has grown from strength to strength with I Rossoblù.
And his latest achievement saw him match Aberdonian footballing great Denis Law’s tally, with the Lawman netting 10 goals in a single season with Torino in the 1961-62 campaign.
Ferguson has a way to go before breaking his single season tally, with another eight goals required between now and the end of the season to snatch the record.
Incredibly, Law bagged two of his 10 goals against Ferguson’s current club Bologna, something the Lanarkshire-born midfielder is also yet to replicate.
Both also have significant scalps to their name, with Ferguson’s big strikes coming against last season’s champions Napoli, heavyweights Juventus, and the recent goal over Lazio who are currently in the Champions League groups.
You can take a look below to see how their goal scoring records compare and who both have scored against during their time in Serie A.
Thiago Motta’s men needed a strong start to the second-half on Friday night (November 3) after finishing the opening 45 all square with Lazio.
And with barely 30 seconds on the clock, clever passing unpicked Lazio and Bologna’s star Scot Ferguson latched onto the ball in the box to tuck the winner home.
That goal leaves Bologna sixth in the table above Jose Mourinho’s Roma and Lazio – who they leapfrogged with that clever strike, sitting just three points off the Champions League spots.
For Aberdeen fans, it’s not long until they get to witness the battle of the former Dons midfielders, with Bologna and Ylber Ramadani’s Lecce due to face off on December 3.
The Albanian’s side lie 11th in the Serie A table, with Ramadani yet to register a goal or an assist for his new club whom he joined for around £1.1million earlier this year.
