Leeds United: Marc Roca in advanced talks for loan with purchase option transfer to Real Betis

June 12, 2023

Real Betis are in advanced talks with Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca about sealing a loan move with a purchase option, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The 26-year-old’s departure from Elland Road has been on the cards ever since the Whites were relegated from the Premier League under Sam Allardyce.

Roca has conveyed through his representatives that he is “very excited” about a transfer to the Spanish outfit, who are set to play in the Europa League next season.

Negotiations are set to start on Monday (12 June) for his transfer, with this week being key to striking a deal.

First of many

After the Whites were relegated from the Premier League, it was only a matter of time before a number of the club’s high-profile names would be heading out of the doors.

The likes of Willy Gnonto, Tyler Adams and Rodrigo are all expected to leave Elland Road this summer, but Roca could be the first departing first-team player.

A move back to his native Spain makes sense for all parties after an underwhelming season for Leeds when considering his hefty price tag.

Things next quite seemed to click for the ex-Bayern Munich midfielder in England, with the pace and ferocity of the Premier League potentially working to his detriment.

Although a loan deal isn’t the best news for the Whites, the purchase option at least leaves the possibility of generating some revenue in the near future.

Leeds are highly unlikely to receive the £15million they initially paid for Roca’s services if the purchase option is triggered, but getting him off the books will hopefully help free up space for incoming transfers.
