Jude Bellingham reports for England duty ahead of Euro 2024 after Champions League win

June 10, 2024

Jude Bellingham missed England’s Euro 2024 warm-up matches after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid and he has now linked up with the Three Lions at St Georges’ Park

Jude Bellingham has joined up with the England squad ahead of their departure to Germany for Euro 2024.

Bellingham missed both of England’s warm-up matches against Bosnia and Iceland, having been given extra time off after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid. And the 20-year-old arrived at England’s St Georges’ Park training base on Sunday to link up with his teammates.

Bellingham starred for Real Madrid this season, netting 23 goals across all competitions, and he is set to play a key role for England after being handed the No. 10 shirt. However, England boss Gareth Southgate has insisted the Three Lions are “not putting everything” on the midfielder.

When asked if Bellingham’s arrival will lift the squad after their lacklustre 1-0 defeat to Iceland, Southgate said: “I’m sure he will but it is not his responsibility to do that. I’m sure he is [capable of handling the pressure] but we are not putting everything on Jude.

“It is for all of us to get the focus right, to make sure individually our mentality is right and as a coaching team we will make sure we are working on the areas that need to be better than they were here.

“We’ve got a lot of good players and it is a collective thing to go and try to win this tournament. If we are relying on one person that isn’t going to be a team that wins. He is, of course, a player with fabulous mentality and will have a big impact on the whole group.

“But the biggest thing over the last couple of games — and everyone was happy after Monday night against Bosnia — is that we’ve never had the collective together on the pitch at the same time.

“Maybe against Iceland it was a bit closer but there are still players we are finding out about and it really sharpens the focus of what we need to do leading into the game against Serbia.”

England’s Euros campaign will get underway on June 16 when they face Serbia. England also have Denmark and Slovenia in their group, with the Three Lions one of the main favourites to go on an lift the trophy.
