Jan-Christian Dreesen agrees that Bayern Munich should sign Florian Wirtz, but is bound to the words of Uli Hoeneß

Not too long ago, Uli Hoeneß said that the best German players should play for Bayern, a sentiment shared by Jan-Christian Dreesen. However, if Bayern were to try — by signing Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz — might that mean going against the words of Hoeneß himself?

“It must always be in FC Bayern’s interest to have the best German players,” Dreesen said on the topic of Wirtz (as captured by Az journalist Maximilian Koch, via @iMiaSanMia. “But Uli Hoeneß also always said that FC Bayern must act economically sensibly. And he would not agree with us if we did not observe both of his basic pillars.”

Florian Wirtz is one of the best players in the world and it looks like he’s set to leave the nest for greener pastures. It is known that Bayer Leverkusen want a nine-figure sum for him and Bayern Munich, the only place he can go that is both an upgrade and has the feel of home, will be a bit hesitant given the club’s fiscal policies.
