Harry Kane and co face Bayer Leverkusen three days after international break

September 14, 2023

Bayern Munich will return to Bundesliga action this week, only three days after the end of September’s international break.

The German champions are set to be thrown straight into a clash with Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.

Harry Kane is among the stars who will return to Bayern and have very limited time to rest before taking to the pitch again.

The scheduling has led to concerns from the staff at both teams but it won’t be changed and talkSPORT.com takes a look at why that is the case…

Why are Bayern Munich playing on Friday night?

Bayern’s clash with Leverkusen is taking place on Friday due to television scheduling.

In Germany, TV rights allocations are split between broadcasters with Sky Germany having the first choice for games in their slot on Saturday.

However, as part of the country’s broadcasting rules, Sky can only show each team eight times a season and because of that, they have opted against showing Bayern this time around.

This means the game was available for DAZN to take for their coverage and they claimed it.

But an issue with that is they only have the broadcasting rights to show Bundesliga games on a Friday or a Sunday.

Bayern face Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday which means that cannot play on Sunday, leaving Friday as the only possible day.
