Hansi Flick prefers €60 million-rated winger over Barcelona priority target

July 16, 2024

Journalist Ivan San Antonio, reporting through SPORT, has confirmed that Barcelona’s new manager, Hansi Flick, is giving preference to the acquisition of Dani Olmo for several reasons.

It is said that Flick’s vision aligns closely with that of Deco, with whom he maintains a fluid dialogue, particularly regarding their admiration for Olmo.

Both Flick and Deco acknowledge the financial constraints that Barcelona face, understanding the gap between their ambitions and the resources available for squad reinforcement.

Despite these challenges, discussions have intensified around potential signings. At present, Barcelona’s strategy appears divided: President Joan Laporta is fervently pursuing Nico Williams, while the club’s sporting management favours the acquisition of Olmo.

Deco had a meeting with Olmo’s agent
It must be noted that Deco recently met with Olmo’s agent, Juanma Lopez, affirming Barcelona’s serious intent.

Talks centred on negotiating Olmo’s release clause, currently set at €60 million, with hopes of securing a more favourable deal before the clause expires on July 20th (extended from its original deadline due to the Euro Cup).

However, hurdles remain. While La Liga’s relaxed stance on salary caps provides some leeway, negotiating down Olmo’s transfer fee remains pivotal.

Competition for Olmo’s signature includes European giants like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich.

Despite this interest, Olmo’s preference for Barcelona is clear, although time is of the essence as he and his representatives assess the feasibility of a deal materializing this summer.

Why does Flick prefer Olmo?
Flick’s strategic outlook stems from the fact that Barcelona will have a shorter squad, meaning that the need for a team rich in versatility and experience would be pivotal.

Olmo’s ability to excel across various attacking roles, notably as an attacking midfielder, makes him a prime candidate to bolster Barcelona’s roster.

The recent Euro tournament showcased Olmo’s prowess, further cementing his appeal to clubs seeking attacking dynamism.

For Olmo, while Barcelona remain his preferred destination, he remains pragmatic. He trusts Barcelona’s commitment to integrate him into Flick’s plans but expects decisive action before the transfer window’s closure.

Ideally, securing both Nico and Olmo would mark a significant upgrade for Barcelona, injecting renewed optimism among fans and reinforcing their competitive edge.
