Guardiola’s group are gaining confidence from consistent results

October 21, 2025

Pep Guardiola gave his thoughts on the improving form of Man City, whose next game takes place in the Champions League against LaLiga outfit Villarreal on Tuesday evening. His men want to bounce back from a 2-2 stalemate at Monaco, but their domestic development has been excellent.

The Citizens earned a 1-1 draw against Arsenal and a 3-0 victory on derby day against Man United as they returned from the international break in September, and they continued to move forward.

Positive results have followed with a 5-1 rout of Burnley, a 1-0 triumph against Brentford, and a 2-0 win over Everton on the weekend. The team have crept up the standings in the Premier League, and now sit just three points behind league leading Arsenal in second spot. For the manager, the focus is on getting stronger with each passing challenge, and putting the memories of the last year behind him.

“We scored a lot of goals, created a lot of clear chances and we concede not much. But always a set in this span of period when we just played eight games in the Premier League and one or two games, two games in the Champions League, I had the feeling every game is better than the previous one.

“Try to better than the next one. So this is always in that part of the season is not defined everything now and talk about a lot about who can do better, read better the situations and we are on it.

“My mind is not last season. My mind is how good we are, how good we are as a team. I’m incredible confident with the players and the and the team and we can think what happened last season but what we can also think about what happened two seasons ago or three seasons ago or four seasons ago.

“I know these players are capable.”
