FRENKIE DE JONG INJURY UPDATE AFTER BARCELONA’S DEFEAT TO REAL MADRID
An early update on the wellbeing of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has come to the fore online.
As much, of course, comes after the midfielder was forced into a premature departure from Barcelona’s latest outing on Sunday evening.
En route to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of arch rivals Real Madrid, De Jong lasted just 45 minutes.
This came after a full-blooded challenge between he and Real counterpart Federico Valverde saw the former come out much the worse.
After being seen to by the visitors’ medical team, De Jong, in turn, was stretchered from the field of play at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It has since been revealed that the Dutch international, who only recently returned from a month on the sidelines through injury, has suffered a fresh ankle issue.
De Jong, as a result, will undergo an MRI at Barca’s medical centre on Monday.
And, as per a report from Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, early indications point towards the 26-year-old being ruled out for a period of around four to five weeks.
His season, as a result, looks all but over.
