Former Brazilian Midfielder Drops a Bold Take on Messi’s PSG Future Amid Barcelona Return Rumors
Lionel Messi’s future at Paris Saint-Germain has been the talk of the town as of late. Messi will become a free agent after this season, and barring a major change of plans from PSG club officials in the coming months, the Argentine forward will reportedly leave the reigning Ligue 1 champions after a mere two seasons.
Barcelona has reportedly been keeping a close watch on Messi’s situation at PSG, as the club is currently “waiting on FFP” (Financial Fair Play) before it opens up talks for such a possible move.
Former Brazilian midfielder Juninho is among those who would like to see Messi make a return to the Catalan club. During a recent appearance on RMC Sport’s Rothen s’enflamme program, the former Olympique Lyonnais sporting director laid out his case on this matter.
“He has achieved everything, he was a world champion, but time passes for everyone,” Juninho said. “I think the best thing is to return to Barca, but in a different way.
“To return to Barca with the same contract would not go down well with the fans. If he returns to Barca, with his heart, another speech, and a contract in the conditions of Barca today, it may be a good choice.”
Messi has received interest from clubs such as Saudi Professional League’s Al-Hilal and Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami, but the veteran forward still has not yet made a final decision on just where he will play club football next season.
Messi currently leads Ligue 1 in both assists (13) and goal contributions (26) this season.
